When I say mind-altering I mean that it is a psychoactive substance. It alters the chemistry of your brain. Caffeine blocks GABA receptors, and if used for long periods of time, changes the number of these receptors. If I don't drink coffee, I get a migraine. So yeah - I'd say it's mind-altering!
I get your point, that alcohol is somehow "worse" than coffee. But I do find it interesting to think about how the rise in popularity of extremely strong coffee drinks has also coincided with a faster-paced frantic out of balance work/life, and an incredible increase in anxiety. Not to mention that culturally, our insomnia is off the charts. Sleep-deprivation causes a whole host of health issues! Just some thoughts! Thanks for reading
